Digital Printing Workshop with Eric Joseph
It was a real treat to once again welcome Eric Joseph from Freestyle Photographic Supplies to The Weston Collective to teach a Digital Printing Workshop. We were even graced by Arthur Van Dover who is a technical wizard at Canon. This specific workshop was titled “Everything you ever wanted to know about fine art digital printmaking” and Eric did not disappoint! We discussed archival pigment printing techniques from 9 in the morning until 5! We were on such a groove that we didn’t even have time to stop for lunch.
Each participant walked away with three prints and an amazing amount of knowledge on the process of mastering the perfect digital print. Eric is a pioneer within the industry and is the go to guy when learning digital printing. He has put in countless hours perfecting his approach and has since dedicated his career to helping others produce amazing digital prints. We are so thankful to Eric and his continued support of The Weston Collective. All proceeds from the workshop went into The Weston Collective’s operating fund. This kind of support helps us continue to offer youth photo programs. Thanks, Eric!
Talking Fine Art Digital Paper
There were so many different types of paper to choose from! One major part of the digital printing process is picking 1-2 papers that you really like and that work with your style. A lot of the papers work better with certain scenes. The group did well with selecting a few of the many paper choices that fit with their look. Choosing paper is definitely a big decision!
Having Eric there to talk about each paper and recommending certain ones was very helpful. He makes custom profiles so when you do decide to choose, you are sure to make prints that look identical to what is on your computer screen.
Making Fine Art Digital Prints!
Once we started printing, the fun truly started! Being able to see your photographs come to life on paper is a really magical experience. Everyone was amazed that the image they saw on the screen was easily duplicated onto paper right in front of their eyes. During the whole 8 hour day, not one piece of paper was thrown out. Eric doesn’t do test strips!
During the workshop, we had three printers rocking. We had The Weston Collective’s Canon Pro 2000, a Canon Pro 1000 and an Epson. Eric likes to use both Canon and Epson printers and show photographers that quality results can be achieved from both! Some folks stick to Epson and others stick strictly to Canon. He likes to offer both options for ultimate results.
