We are thrilled to announce that we were awarded a grant from the Arts Council for Monterey County! This grant will allow us to start, Framing Photography's Future, a program serving 4th and 5th graders of Martin Luther King Jr. School of the Arts, where they will learn the process of black and white film photography!
Framing Photograph's Future
Framing Photography’s Future will augment the growing arts program at MLK SOA by offering students an additional means for artistic expression. As a working part of a common goal, TWC will contribute to the proven success arts programs have had in Priority and Focus schools to significantly improve academic achievement, reduce disciplinary referrals, and increase attendance.
Sessions of Framing Photography’s Future will encourage students to express themselves freely in a safe, creative, and fun environment while actively participating in thoughtful discussion and gaining practical experience working in the darkroom. The program will take an engaging, hands-on, approach to cover all aspects of photography through a diverse and stimulating range of in-class activities, projects, and lessons.
Our program is spearheaded by Annabelle Scott, the Director of Marketing and Development for the Weston Collective and a past winner of a Weston Scholarship Award. She wanted to pass the life-changing experiences she felt through the scholarship to the youth of Seaside. We are so thankful to have her on our team!
