The Photography of Andrew Wilson
“There is really no replacement for the physical representation of the images you are left with when you shoot film. Film by nature is a limited medium, and working with its weaknesses forces you to be in the moment and make each photo with intention. The process of shooting, developing, printing and scanning film has given every image I make a personal value that is difficult to encapsulate.
While most of my work is landscape and urban in nature, I tend to avoid wide vistas and aim for more intimate compositions you might miss at first glance. My approach is to capture less of how a scene actually looked and more of what it felt like to be there. By capturing places and things lost to time and largely forgotten, with isolated subjects and dramatic skies, I think my work speaks a lot to feelings of loneliness and nostalgia.
I’m continuously working on the challenge of self acceptance, and working to take agency in life. And I would like my work to act as a timeline I can look back on moving forward; representing the adventures and obstacles that arose on the pathway to finding direction in my life.”
